Worked spread example
Suppose a sportsbook lists Philadelphia −3.5 against Dallas while EdgeLine estimates Philadelphia should be favored by 6 points. The 2.5-point difference favors Philadelphia at the displayed −3.5, but the market price still matters. Philadelphia would need to win by at least four points for that spread to cover. If the market moves to −6, the same model estimate no longer shows that 2.5-point gap.
A winner forecast answers a different question: which team is more likely to win outright. It can favor Philadelphia without making every Philadelphia spread attractive. The live board labels the market type, displayed number and model difference; it does not treat a projected winner as an automatic point-spread pick.
Why the best number matters
A half-point can change the long-run value of a spread wager. Market prices move, so the current number may differ from the line used when a recommendation first qualified. EdgeLine separates live analysis from the locked grading record.
Limits of spread projections
Injuries, turnovers, weather changes and market information can invalidate assumptions quickly. A large model difference is not a guaranteed cover.
