EdgeLine compares the sportsbook total with an independent projection of combined scoring. The model displays an Over or Under only when the total is the strongest measured market for that matchup.

What influences a total

• Offensive and defensive scoring profiles
• Quarterback availability and material injuries
• Pace, expected game script and matchup efficiency
• Weather conditions that may affect passing or kicking
• Rest, travel and movement from the opening total

Reading the projection

If the fair total is above the sportsbook total, the measured direction is Over. If it is below, the direction is Under. The size of the difference contributes to the recommendation tier, but corroborating signals and adverse movement can affect the final label.

Worked over-under example

Suppose the market total is 47.5 and a model projects 50 points. The 2.5-point gap points toward Over, but does not itself qualify an official pick. A 27–21 final has 48 combined points and wins Over 47.5; a 24–20 final has 44 and loses. At a whole-number total of 48, exactly 48 points normally pushes. These are illustrative numbers, not current odds.
